pancreatitisPancreatitis and doctors can be frustrating to say the least. It is difficult to find a doctor who knows anything about how to stop an acute pancreatitis attack, how to heal after an attack, what to eat right after an attack and much more. Pancreatits and doctors is a subject that has cuased me many years of pain.

Pancreatitis or inflammation of the pancreas is an extremely painful condition that can be life threatening. When I was diagnosed doctors had no clue how to treat it properly. Most of those I met while I was sick couldn’t even recognize what was wrong with me. ONE out of 14 “got it.”

From the comments on this blog doctors seem to be able to recognize acute pancreatitis more easily these days yet …

They still find some issues difficult to address, even understand. One is the inflammation. They haven’t figured out how to eliminate the inflammation quickly, they still think that anti-inflammatories are only good for mild to moderate pain, not comprehending that anti-inflammatories in strong doses (Ibuprofen 800 mgs) will eliminate most symptoms in 60 to 90 minutes because anti-inflammatories addresses the inflammation, yet they are learning in regards to diet.

Pancreatitis and Doctors – Medical Sites

pancreatitisI check medical sites from time to time for new pancreatitis information and to see if they (doctors) have learned anything. Most used to be filled with extremely dangerous information regarding diet after acute pancreatitis. The same was true for those who suffer with chronic pancreatitis yet this site now has some fairly decent diet information.

I wonder where they learned that they shouldn’t feed an acute pancreatitis patient salmon, beef, or some other high fat food for their first meal after being NPO (nothing by mouth) for a few days? You wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve heard in comments that a patients first meal after a weeks fast was some ridiculous high fat, full course meal. And what happened, often? They vomited or even worse had another acute attack. I wonder how they learned that diet and the amount of fat consumed on a daily basis is important? Maybe they have read my blog. 🙂
